FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What ages do you accept for training?
We offer classes for kids, teens, and adults starting at age 6! Whether it’s your first day or you’ve been training for years, everyone progresses at their own pace. Our coaches are committed to creating a positive, supportive space for all students to learn and grow.
Should parents stay during kids’ classes?
We highly recommend that parents stay during class—especially for younger children. It helps your child feel supported, and ensures you're available if your child needs assistance or if a coach needs to speak with you.
TRIAL CLASS & VISITOR QUESTIONS
I’ve never done Jiu-Jitsu before. Can I still try a class?
Absolutely! We welcome all experience levels—from total beginners to seasoned grapplers. Your first class is completely free, and we’ll make sure you feel comfortable and supported. Just head to our Sign-Up page to pre-register as a visitor and choose a day that works best for you.
What should I wear to my first class?
If you don’t have a Gi (uniform) yet, no worries—we offer Gi rentals for $10, or you can borrow one for your trial class. For No-Gi classes, wear athletic clothing with no pockets or zippers (rashguard or fitted shirt, and shorts or leggings). Comfort and coverage are key!

Do I have to buy Wise-branded gear?
Not at all. While we do have Wise rashguards and shorts available at the gym—and branded rashguards you can order through Cruz Combat—you’re welcome to train in any appropriate Jiu-Jitsu gear that meets the requirements (no zippers, buttons, or loose clothing).
How do I sign up for my free trial class?
Just head to our Sign-Up page, choose “Visitor” on the form, and check out our schedule to find a class time that works for you. When you arrive, check in with one of our coaches and we’ll get you set up!
I already train Jiu-Jitsu at another school. Can I come try a class?
Yes! If you're visiting from another gym or considering switching to Wise, you're welcome to join us for a free trial class. We’d love to meet you and give you a feel for our training environment and community.
OPEN MAT QUESTIONS
Can I attend an open mat if I’m not a Wise member?
Yes! Our open mats are free and open to anyone actively training at another gym. We just ask that you're currently enrolled in a Jiu Jitsu program elsewhere to help maintain a safe and respectful training environment. If you're thinking about joining Wise, you're also welcome to use open mat as your trial class.
Do I need to bring both Gi and No-Gi gear to open mat?
It’s recommended! Some folks roll in Gi, others prefer NoGi- what you participate in is completely up to you. Bringing both gives you the most flexibility to train with different partners.
Do I need to sign a waiver to join open mat?
Yes! All guests must sign a waiver before participating. If you're under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the waiver in person. No exceptions, please!
I’m under 18 and want to attend open mat. Can I come alone?
If you’re under 18, you must have a parent or legal guardian present at check-in to sign the waiver. After that, they’re welcome to stay and watch or return when class ends.
